Samantha Knight

I am experienced at working with couples who are struggling to stay together or trying to part amicably. I work with couples who experience issues on becoming parents (fertility/adoption) or with those who find it difficult to make the decision to parent because of their own past experiences.

I provide a confidential and safe space for you to explore the issues that may be affecting you as an individual or as a couple. There can sometimes be a great sense of relief in talking about something that may have disabled you for some time. The work we do together can enable you to enhance your wellbeing and think about your relationships and how you contribute to them.

People seek therapy for different reasons, life issues, trauma due to mental or physical events, loss of a loved one, a breakdown of a relationship. Therapy is a route to discover ways of managing. I offer a relaxed, compassionate and safe space where you can explore your difficulties and begin to understand your past behaviours and how they link to present day anxieties and feelings of depression. Through the therapy you will develop a greater sense of awareness and develop your approach to life and its challenges in a way that provides confidence and change.

Areas I work with, include:

  • Addiction and dependency

  • Anger

  • Anxiety and panic

  • Bereavement and grief

  • Depression

  • Family Issues

  • Living with disability, long-term health problems, or terminal illness

  • Parenting/ step parenting

  • Relationship Issues

  • Self-Esteem

  • Sexual and/or Physical Abuse in Childhood

  • Sexuality and Sexual issues

  • Stress

  • Trauma

  • Work related issues

I am also experienced at working with young people between the ages of 4 and 19 who are struggling with a variety of issues such as anxiety, bereavement, being in care/adopted, eating disorders, identity, school, self esteem, self harm and sexuality. In addition to my Private work, I also work with staff and clients at a Mental Health Charity.  I have extensive experience working within Primary Schools with children who experience social and emotional difficulties. I also work with children and parents who are experiencing challenging family dynamics.

My early career involved working with children and young people for 15 years.  This experience stirred my interest in how people behave within relationships and the question of ‘how to help break the cycle of behaviour?’ led me to change my course of work.  I now work with couples and individuals who require help in many areas but I am passionate about working with couples who find it challenging to relate to each other and individuals who experience trouble in forming and maintaining relationships.  Sometimes it can be difficult to hear one another and you are unable to express your concerns.

I undertake regular clinical supervision and ensure that I continue to enhance my knowledge and skills by participating in regular continued professional development events and training.
