Julie Murray
I am an experienced, registered psychotherapist, offering psychotherapy and relationship counselling to individuals and couples. Weekly sessions take place in a comfortable and confidential environment in Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire.
I firmly believe that the quality of our relationships help shape our identity and affect our well-being. My work is in helping couples and individuals improve relationships: the relationship with oneself, with family, with a partner and with the world at large.
No matter how big or small your problems may seem, I am committed to helping all clients with a thoughtful and curious approach to my work. I place huge importance on the client-therapist relationship and I aim to bring a warm and supportive approach to my work. Problems within a relationship are usually complicated and often stem from past experiences and challenges as well as current situations. My goal is that each client will come away from the process with a greater self awareness and understanding, whilst feeling strengthened by the experience.

I work with clients from all cultures, backgrounds and orientations. I appreciate and value the unique personality and experiences of each client and I welcome, in equal measure, the chance to work with individuals and with couples. Both types of therapy bring their own challenges and dynamics and ensures that I am constantly learning from and inspired by my work.

The way I work is client led and client specific and is underpinned by my training and experience in psychodynamic theory. Within that, I draw from affiliated theoretical models such as Object Relations Theory and Attachment Based Theory. At times, I employ practical, research based models of working such as Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT) and the Gottman model.
If you are curious and interested in the process, I invite you to contact me so that we can arrange a conversation about whether the counselling I offer is right for you. Following the telephone conversation, we may arrange an initial consultation where your concerns as a couple or an individual can be explored. If we agree to work together, 50 minute sessions would then commence at a mutually agreed day and time on normally on a weekly basis, for as long as is helpful. You and I will review the progress at distinct stages to help determine the goals and duration of the work together.

In addition to my private practice, I currently work as a visiting clinician at Tavistock Relationships and until recently, I volunteered at South Bucks Counselling in High Wycombe.
